"My works aim to challenge preconceptions about the materiality of abstract sculpture in metal. I want people to see steel and glass differently, for these materials to reflect unexpected textures, like a light velvet."
Carol Bove, an American artist born in Geneva in 1971, is renowned for her sculptures in glass and stainless steel that play with space and textile experiments. Her creations, which appear to alter the materiality of their components, invite reflection on abstract sculpture and the architectural context in which they are situated. Raised in Berkeley in the 1970s, Carol was shaped by an alternative education, surrounded by intellectual and artistic figures that foreshadowed a life dedicated to art.
"I grew up in Berkeley, surrounded by students, intellectuals, and young people exploring new avenues. It was a cultural ferment that deeply influenced my approach to art."
Her works, often imbued with a touch of humor, challenge our expectations of traditional sculpture through their texture and integration into the environment.
"Architecture and spatial experience are fundamental in my artistic practice. Each piece is an invitation to see the world from a different angle."
