REMINISCENCE by Elizabeth Colomba

FAMM presents the first institutional exhibition in Europe dedicated to Elizabeth Colomba, a French artist whose work revisits the grand narratives of Western art history. Curated by Simon de Pury, one of the art world's most emblematic figures, REMINISCENCE brings together 31 works, including 15 large-format oil paintings, 14 preparatory drawings and 2 watercolours, many of which have never been exhibited before. Drawing upon Old Master techniques, Colomba reinvests European canons - from Vermeer to Ingres, from Caravaggio to Vigée Le Brun - to recentre the Black female figure. Her richly layered compositions, dense with symbolism and historical references, transform colonialism into a language of dignity and emancipation, restoring presence and sovereignty to Black women long absent from the canon of art and history. This exhibition marks the artist's institutional debut in France, her native country, and aligns with FAMM's mission to celebrate women artists who have been under-represented for far too long.
