Selmersheim DesgrangeJeanne

(1877 - 1958)

Painter

French

Jeanne Adèle Selmersheim-Desgrange was born on January 27, 1877 in Paris and died in the same city on April 30, 1958. She was a French artist associated with the neo-impressionist movement. The artist came from a family of artists, with her mother, Isabelle Toudouze, and her grandmother, Adèle-Anaïs Colin Toudouze, both recognized as painters and illustrators. Under the guidance of Paul Signac, whom she began a relationship with in 1910 despite their prior marriages, Jeanne developed a distinctive technique, most notably evident in her paintings of gardens and floral compositions. Her work "Les fleurs" is particularly known for being stolen in 1961 during a famous theft in Saint-Tropez.
