Romanian

Natalia Dumitresco, was a prominent Romanian-French abstract painter known for her dynamic and lyrical compositions. Alongside her husband, the French artist Alexandre Istrati, Dumitresco played a significant role in the post-war Parisian art scene, contributing to the development of abstract art in France.

Dumitresco's artistic journey began in Romania, where she studied at the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest. She later moved to Paris in 1939, where she met and married Istrati, with whom she would share both artistic and personal collaborations for the rest of her life.

Influenced by the vibrant artistic community of post-war Paris, Dumitresco's early work reflected the influence of Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism, characterized by bold colors, gestural brushwork, and dynamic compositions. Over time, her style evolved towards a more refined and restrained abstraction, marked by a delicate balance of form, color, and texture.

Dumitresco's paintings often featured organic and geometric shapes floating within luminous, atmospheric spaces, imbuing her work with a sense of mystery and poetry. Her mastery of color and composition allowed her to create evocative and emotionally resonant artworks that transcended the boundaries of representation and invited viewers to contemplate the beauty of pure form and color.

Throughout her career, Dumitresco's work received widespread acclaim, earning her recognition as one of the leading abstract painters of her generation. Her paintings were exhibited in galleries and museums around the world and are held in numerous public and private collections.
