Julie Manet was a French painter, memoirist, and important witness to the artistic world of late nineteenth-century Paris. Born on November 14, 1878, she was the daughter of Berthe Morisot, one of the leading figures of Impressionism, and Eugène Manet. Through her family connections, Julie grew up surrounded by some of the most influential artists and writers of her era, including Édouard Manet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Edgar Degas.

After the deaths of both her parents in the 1890s, Julie was cared for by family friends within the Impressionist circle. As a teenager, she kept detailed journals that provide valuable firsthand accounts of Parisian cultural life, artistic discussions, and the personal relationships among major artists. These diaries have become important historical documents for understanding the Impressionist movement.

Julie also pursued painting herself, exhibiting works and continuing the artistic legacy of her family. In 1900, she married painter Ernest Rouart. Throughout her life, she helped preserve and promote the works of her mother and other Impressionist artists. Today, Julie Manet is remembered not only as an artist but also as a key chronicler of one of the most influential periods in modern art history.
