Alicja Wahl is a Polish painter and illustrator. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1952 to 1957, painting under the supervision of Professor Eugeniusz Eibisch (together with her twin sister Bożena). She also completed a supplementary component of her diploma at the Academy’s Ceramics Department in 1958, under Professor Wanda Golakowska. Wahl began exhibiting in 1961, presenting ceramics at her first exhibition at the Krzywe Koło Gallery, and later showing her drawings and paintings. In the 1970s, she and her sister collaborated with the weekly magazine Kultura and worked as draughtswomen and illustrators. The twin sisters also designed sets for TV and theatre productions. For many years, Alicja and Bożena did not sign their works, treating them as joint creations. They organised their first painting exhibition in 1979, to celebrate the opening of their own gallery. The sisters’ work focuses on people entangled in the torments of life. Alicja's work is more sombre and dramatic in its expression and since the 1990s has included more landscapes.
