Rose Shakinovsky, born in 1953 in Johannesburg, is a multidisciplinary artist. Her work intertwines elements of current social and political debates with major events in art history. In her most recent works, she explores themes of posthumanism and transhumanism by addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change. Her approach encourages viewers to reevaluate familiar contexts and consider the consequences of human actions in an evolving world. Her art reflects her engagement with contemporary themes and her interest in understanding possible futures.
She collaborates with her wife Claire Gavronsky under the artist name "rosenclaire." They are also mentors for emerging artists and have been running an artist residency program in Tuscany for three decades.
